About Abby Cohen
My name is Abby and I’m an aspiring artist from New York. I currently attend Avenues: The World School and am finishing my Junior Year. I’ve always been pulled to art since I was young, especially photography, as it’s a practice I’ve seen many of my family members fall in love with and people I look up to. What has really shaped my views on art is my aunt who I’m named after who was a photographer but sadly passed away quite young. She’s always been a role model for me as I've always felt a strong connection to her.
I started doing film and photo projects at the beginning of my high school career which is really what sparked my passion for the ability to create conceptual work that communicates a story, emotion, thought, or theory. Photography and video/film are the main mediums I work with as I find it fascinating that I can manipulate frames in ways to convey a specific idea. Psychology is another great interest of mine which often drives my work since I love to focus and explore how the human mind works.
During school projects I incorporate these artistic practices in whichever way I can and in my free time I work on personal projects, attend workshops or programs where I can expand my knowledge and build a better studio practice. I hope to keep learning and find a career path in the future that includes creative work.
